STILLWATER, Okla. –Oklahoma State scored 24 unanswered points en route to a 38-31 victory over Iowa State Saturday afternoon at Boone Pickens Stadium in front of a crowd of 53,239. With the loss, Iowa State falls to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in Big 12 action, while Oklahoma State improves to 4-2 and 2-1 in Big 12 play.
Keys of the Game
After a back-and-forth affair in the first half as the Cyclones entered halftime with a 17-14 lead. The Cyclones would break things open in the third quarter with a 35-yard touchdown pass from Joel Lanning to Trever Ryen to take a 24-14 lead, marking the first time either team had a two-score advantage. Iowa State would continue its offensive push, going up by as much as 17, to take a 31-14 lead off an 18-yard touchdown from Lanning to Allen Lazard with 5:55 to play in the third quarter.
However the Cowboys kicked their offense into high gear following Lazard's seecond touchdown as they went on to score 24-unanswered points to take a 38-31 lead with 3:40 left in the fourth quarter, as the Cyclone offense stalled.
Iowa State committed three turnovers and two in the second half, which would prove costly as OSU scored 14 points off Cyclone errors.
Oklahoma State's Mason Rudolph was 26-of-44 for 351 yards and four touchdowns. Rudolph's target of choice was wide receiver James Washington who finished the afternoon with eight receptions for 152 yards and two touchdowns.
Players of Note...
Joel Lanning was 18-of-30 for 179 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 67 yards.
Carson Epps finished the game with a career-high five receptions for 56 yards.
Allen Lazard finished the game with six receptions for 55 yards and scored two touchdowns in the contest for the second time in his career.
Trever Ryen led the Iowa State receiving corps with six catches for 74 yards. His six receptions tied his career high, which he set against TCU this season.
Brian Peavy led the Cyclones with eight tackles and five solo.
