TERRE HAUTE, Indiana – The No. 23 Iowa State men's cross country team finished 16th at the 2016 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday at LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course. The meet capped off the program's best season in recent memory, as 16th place ties for the best finish since 1997 for the Iowa State men.
Redshirt freshman Thomas Pollard once again led the Cyclones on the day, with a phenomenal outing. Pollard clocked a 30:30.6 to finish 45th overall, less than three seconds out of All-American status. Pollard was the third-highest finisher among freshmen in the entire field.
Senior Kevyn Hoyos was Iowa State's second finisher, wrapping up what has been a tremendous 2016 campaign for the graduate transfer. Hoyos finished 58th overall with a time of 30:35.2. Sophomore Dan Curts, who redshirted the 2015 season after qualifying for the NCAA meet as an individual in 2014, was Iowa State's third finisher. Curts placed 99th with a time of 30:51.5.
Sophomore Josef Andrews was the next runner in Cardinal & Gold to cross the finish line in 136th place while clocking a time of 31:09.5. Another freshman, Andrew Jordan, rounded out the Cyclone scoring effort, finishing with a time of 31:13.1 to place 148th overall.
Toby Hardwick was Iowa State's sixth finisher, placing 158th in 31:18.9, followed by John Nownes in 198th with time of 31:39.8.
Next Up
The 2016 NCAA Cross Country season is now over, and the Cyclones will begin preparing for the 2017 Indoor Track & Field season, which is set to kick-off on Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Hawkeye Challenge in Iowa City.
