AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State volleyball team announced its spring volleyball schedule Friday. The slate features a match against a Sweet 16 squad, a home tournament at Hilton Coliseum and a tournament at UNI.
Iowa State spent Spring Break at Hawaii training and taking on the Rainbow Wahine, who made it to last season's Regional Final and were the Big West champions.
ISU will return to the court on Saturday, Apr. 2 when Iowa State travels to Omaha to take on Creighton at 4:30 p.m. inside D.J. Sokol Arena. The Bluejays are coming off one of the best seasons in its program's history, as head coach Kirsten Bernthan Booth guided CU to Big EAST Regular Season and Tournament championships, before taking the Jays to the program's first ever Regional Semifinals. Creighton will have to replace three starters from that squad, but have already made an addition for the spring with outside hitter/setter Lydia Dimke of Purdue.
The Cyclones will make their lone appearance of the spring season in Hilton Coliseum on Saturday, Apr. 9 for Iowa State's annual spring tournament. Play will begin at 10 a.m. with Iowa State taking on North Dakota State, followed by UNI (10:50 a.m.), Creighton (11:40 a.m.) and Iowa (2:40 p.m.). The full tournament schedule will be announced at a later date.
Iowa State will wrap up the spring season in Cedar Falls at UNI's annual spring tournament on Saturday, Apr. 16. The tournament field, and schedule will be announced at a later date.
Head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch and her Cyclones are coming off their 10th-straight appearance in the NCAA Volleyball Championship, reaching the second round en route to finishing with a 19-11 record. Iowa State returns 12 letterwinners from last season's team, led by a pair of All-Big 12 First Team members in Alexis Conaway and Morgan Kuhrt, and 2015 Big 12 and AVCA Central Region Freshman of the Year Jess Schaben.
One of the main storylines of the spring season will be the Cyclones replacing two-time All-American and Big 12 Libero of the Year Caitlin Nolan. Iowa State has many outstanding candidates that will be competing for the spot, led by rising junior Branen Berta and rising sophomore Abby Phillips.
