AMES, Iowa – Iowa State senior Georges Niang has been named to the Wooden Award final ballot. The Wooden Award is given annually to the nation's top player. This is Niang's second consecutive season on the final ballot.
Niang, a Methuen, Massachusetts, native, leads Iowa State and is second in the Big 12 averaging 19.3 points. He is the only player nationally averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and shooting at least 50 percent from the field and 80 percent at the charity stripe. Since 1994-95, only 23 players (29 times) have hit those marks. The last player to do so was Creighton's Doug McDermott in 2013-14, which was the season he won the Wooden Award.
Niang has scored in double figures in all 30 games this season, including 12 games with 20 or more points. He is the only active player with 2,000 points, 600 rebounds and 400 assists.
Niang and the Cyclones face Kansas today at 3 p.m. on ESPN.
