AMES, Iowa – Iowa State's Monté Morris and Georges Niang have earned All-District VI honors from the United States Basketball Writers Association. For both Morris and Niang, it is the second consecutive season earning the recognition from the USBWA.
Niang, who on Monday became Iowa State's first two-time All-American, is in the midst of the best season of his career. Niang finished the regular season second among Big 12 players in scoring with 19.4 points, while also grabbing a career-best 6.2 rebounds. He is the only player in the league to rank in the top-12 of scoring, rebounding and assisting.
Morris is averaging 14.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and a Big 12-best 7.1 assists. He's one of just five players nationally to be above 14 points, four rebound and seven assists. He ranks among the nation's top-10 in assists per game and assist-to-turnover ratio (4.1) and is among the final five candidates for the Bob Cousy Award.
Morris, Niang and their Cyclone teammates begin defense of their Big 12 Championship title Thursday against Oklahoma. The game will tip at approximately 8:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
