OMAHA, Nebraska - The Iowa State volleyball team won a marathon first-set, but ended up falling to Creighton in four sets 3-1 (33-31, 23-25, 24-26, 22-25) Saturday afternoon at D.J. Sokol Arena.
Iowa State was led offensively by 17 kills from
Ciara Capezio, while
Morgan Kuhrt also reached double figures with 12. The Cyclone offense was thin without the services of
Jess Schaben (shoulder) and
Samara West (knee).
Grace Lazard filled in the middle with nine kills.
Hannah Bailey also had nine kills, with
Alexis Conaway contributing eight.
In the back row,
Abby Phillips led the Iowa State effort with 18 digs, while
Branen Berta posted 14.
The Bluejays were strong in front of its home fans, recording 61 kills at a .270 hitting percentage. They also showed some scrappiness in the back row, recording 66 digs to the Cyclones' 63.
Iowa State is back in action next weekend at Hilton Coliseum for Iowa State's annual Spring Tournament. The action begins at 10 a.m. inside Hilton, with doors opening at 9:30 a.m.
