2016-17 Farm Strong Squad Announced

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State University Athletics Department, in partnership with the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation (IFBF), is proud to announce the third annual Farm Strong Team, which recognizes exceptional Iowa State student-athletes who embody the character and work ethic of Iowa's farmers, both on and off the field. Last year, proceeds from the sale of Farm Strong apparel also raised more than $10,000 for the Iowa Food Bank Association.
Farming may look different today than in the past, but the values that make Iowa farmers Farm Strong - hard work, commitment, integrity - have not changed. Those are the same characteristics shared by many Iowans. The Iowa State Cyclones and the Iowa Farm Bureau are proud to celebrate farmers and all Iowans who summon the strength to do more, be more. Those individuals who don't have an ounce of quit in them. Those who are Farm Strong.
The 16-member Farm Strong squad includes five native Iowans: Kane Seeley (football), Hope Scheffert (Softball), Meredith Burkhall (Women's Basketball), Gabe Moreno (Wrestling) and Derek Jones (Men's Track & Field). These student-athletes best exemplify the character, perseverance, and work ethic of the Iowa farmer and what it means to be an Iowan.
"By teaming up with Iowa State and their successful athletics programs, we are able to showcase the Farm Strong® character of Iowa's farmers with a whole new audience of consumers; ISU fans who want to know more about how their food, fuel and fiber is grown," said Craig Hill, IFBF president. "The way we farm and the style of play on the athletic field have evolved over time, but the values that make Iowa farmers and ISU student athletes Farm Strong® - hard work, commitment, integrity - have not changed. We congratulate the members of this year's Farm Strong® squad."Â
