AMES, Iowa - Wayne Stanley was the quarterback and co-captain on one of Iowa State's greatest football teams, the 1976 squad which finished the season ranked in the top-20 and second nationally in total offense (439.6).
Stanley was a dual-threat quarterback, igniting the Cyclone offense with his feet and arm. He earned All-Big Eight honors and later became an assistant on ISU head coach Earle Bruce's Cyclone staff graduation.
A native of Belle Glade, Fla., Stanley followed Bruce to Ohio State, where he coached the Buckeye running backs from 1979-83. His son, Dimitrious, was a standout receiver at Ohio State from 1993-96.
Stanley, along with many of his friends and teammates, will return to Ames for the home-opener vs. UNI to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1976 team.
He recently talked to us about his outstanding Cyclone career in our latest CyCast.
