AMES, Iowa- Iowa State newcomer
Erin Freeman highlighted the second day of the fall season by advancing to the semifinals at the Drake Invitational before falling as the Cyclones wrapped up play in its first weekend of action.
The Cyclones started off their season strong Friday with two singles' victories and two doubles' victories by
Liera Bender and Freeman.
While the Cyclones didn't see the same success Saturday, Freeman wrapped up a solid weekend. The sophomore grabbed the only win of the day by defeating Rafa Nora of Northern Colorado 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. She began her first season in a Cyclones uniform with two singles victories before falling to Ting- Ya Hsu from Wichita State 6-2, 6-4.
After winning their first two doubles match of the year and advancing to the semifinals,
Liera Bender and Freeman lost to Anna Battersby and Courtney Schulte of Northern Colorado 8-1.Â
The Cyclones will compete again next weekend in Minneapolis, Minn., for the Gopher Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 22 through Sunday, Sept. 25.Â
