AMES, Iowa – Iowa State senior Monté Morris has been named one of 10 finalists for this year's Bob Cousy Award, given annually to the nation's top point guard in men's college basketball.
Morris, a Flint, Michigan native, has continued to build on an already impressive career during his senior campaign. He is averaging a career-best 16.4 points to go along with 4.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game. He is the only player in the nation averaging 16 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists while also committing fewer than 2.0 turnovers.
Morris is the nation's leader with a 5.0 assist-to-turnover ratio. On Saturday against Vanderbilt, Morris broke Iowa State's career record for assists (666). Earlier this season, Morris joined Jeff Hornacek as the only players in school history and he became just the third player in Big 12 history to record 1,000 points, 600 assists and 200 steals in a career.
Morris has scored in double figures in 17 games this season, including a career-best 30 points against Oklahoma State. In November, Morris recorded just the fifth triple-double in school history when he 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in 22 minutes against The Citadel.
The list will be narrowed to five finalists in March. The winner of the award will be presented at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show live from The Novo by Microsoft in Los Angeles, California, on Friday, April 7.
