Iowa State Faces Vanderbilt In Big 12/SEC Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Iowa State women's basketball team (3-3, 0-0 Big 12) is set to take on Vanderbilt (2-6, 0-0 SEC) on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. in Nashville, Tenn. in the Big 12/SEC Challenge. Iowa State is 1-2 all-time against Vanderbilt and 0-1 in the Challenge, falling in overtime last year to Mississippi State, the national runner-up, in Hilton Coliseum.Â

- Junior Bridget Carleton is one of six players nationally averaging over 18.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists. The Chatham, Ontario, Canada native is averaging 18.3 points, 6.5 boards and 3.7 assists. She is also averaging 2.2 steals per game and 1.3 blocks per contest.
- Carleton is one of 20 players in the nation named to the Cheryl Miller Award Preseason Watch List, which honors the nation's top small forward. Carleton also earned honorable mention honors on the Big 12 preseason team for the 2017-18 season in addition to being a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 postseason team in 2016-17.
- Freshman Kristin Scott is one of just five freshmen in the nation averaging over 9.0 rebounds per game. She has rebounded in double figures twice this season and is averaging 9.2 boards per game.
- Iowa State dropped three non-conference games so far this season with close losses to Drake and UNI and a loss to a hot-shooting Central Michigan team in the Junkanoo Jam Championship game. Iowa State has made the NCAA Tournament 10 times under head coach Bill Fennelly with two or more non-conference losses.
- Iowa State ranks 18th in the nation in blocked shots per game, averaging 5.8 per contest. The Cyclones have swatted 35 shots on the year, with three Cyclones with over five blocks so far. The school record for most blocked shots by a team in a season is 154 in 2007-08.
- The 2016-17 season marks the 23rd in the tenure of Bill Fennelly. Fennelly has led Iowa State to 17 NCAA Tournament appearances, which is tied with Oklahoma as the most of any Big 12 team since 1997. Fennelly boasts a 468-239 record at Iowa State and a 634-292 record in his 28-year career as a head coach. His 634 career wins lists him in the top-30 in the NCAA among active coaches.
