NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Iowa State (5-3) scored a single-game school record 21 runs on Saturday en route to a 21-1 victory over Alabama A&M (2-6) at the Tiger Classic, hosted by Tennessee State.
The 21 runs scored by the Cyclones were good to break the program's top mark previously set on April 22, 1976, in a 20-3 win over Drake. Iowa State got its 15 hits from 12 different players, highlighted by a grand slam from junior Niki Turner, clearing the bases for the first home run of her career.

The Cyclones got their record-setting offensive day started in the early going, as six ISU runs came to the plate in the top of the first inning. AAMU starter Jada Jackson struggled early on, giving up four walks while facing just seven batters. Kelsey McFarland, Logan Schaben and Cathlin Bingham all collected RBIs as Iowa State led 6-0 through one frame.
Iowa State put another six runs on the board in the second inning. Two runs came to the plate on AAMU wild pitches, as well as one via a bases loaded walk. Jackie Chairez also collected a two-RBI single in the frame as the Cyclones went ahead 12-0 after two.
Freshman Sami Williams provided some fireworks in the third inning, launching the first home run of her career on a two-run shot to left-center. Williams' dinger, along with Jaiden Johnson scoring on a wild pitch, put the Cyclones ahead 15-0.
The highlight of the game came courtesy of Niki Turner in the top of the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, the junior stepped to the plate and smashed a grand slam for the first home run of her collegiate career, giving Iowa State a 19-0 lead. Later in the inning, Bingham and Kirsten Caudle notched back-to-back RBI singles to tie, and subsequently break, the single-game school record with 21 total runs.
Aside from the offensive firepower, starting pitcher Savannah Sanders was tremendous throughout. The sophomore gave up just one run on eight hits while striking out nine Alabama A&M batters. With the win, Sanders improved to 2-2 on the season.
