AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State volleyball team closes out the spring season this weekend with a pair of matches against two of the Big Ten's best. The competition starts on Friday at 7 p.m. in Manchester, Iowa as Iowa State takes on Wisconsin at West Delaware High School. On Saturday, the Cyclones will be at the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis to take on 2016 Final Four participant Minnesota, with first serve at 2:30 p.m.
Admission to both matches is free.
For fans attending the match at Minnesota, the Iowa State Alumni Association's Twin Cities chapter will be hosting a pre-game gathering at the Buffalo Wild Wings at 2001 University Ave. SE, across the street from the Sports Pavilion, starting at 12:30 p.m. For more info, click here.
The Cyclones will finish the spring season with a pair of matches against teams who were among the final eight alive for last season's national championship. The Badgers spring has revolved around replacing three-time First Team All-American setter Lauren Carlini and two-time All-American middle blocker Haleigh Nelson. However, the Badgers, whose 2016 ended in the Regional Final to eventual national champion Stanford, return plenty of talent, led by 2016 Big Ten Freshman of the Year Molly Haggerty and All-Big Ten middle blocker Tionna Williams.
Minnesota made its second-straight Final Four last season, losing to Stanford in the National Semifinals. Though AVCA National Player of the Year Sarah Willhite has graduated, the Gophers return another First Team All-American in setter Samantha Seliger-Swenson. Seliger-Swenson is one of three returning All-Americans for the Gophers, as they also feature middle blocker Molly Lohman and outside hitter Alexis Hart.
