AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team (15-9, 1-7 Big 12) fell to No. 38 Oklahoma, 4-0, in a Big 12 Conference tilt Friday afternoon at the Forker Tennis Courts.
The pairing of Sami Budai and Maty Cancini were able to secure an impressive win against the 78th-ranked duo of Marlene Stripp and Julie Bryne. Budai and Cancini won in convincing fashion by a score of 6-2.
After the Sooners took the match at No. 2, the Cyclones were on the verge of winning the doubles point, but a 7-5 loss on court No. 3 gave Oklahoma the 1-0 lead.
Iowa State was never able to rebound in singles play.
The Sooners were able to take the first three singles matches and notch a 4-0 victory.
This was the sixth consecutive ranked opponent that the Cyclones have faced.
That streak will continue when Iowa State plays No. 9 Oklahoma State on Sunday. This will be the final regular season match for the Cyclones and will be senior day for Sami Budai and Natalie Phippen.
The match will be at 10 A.M. at the Forker Tennis Courts in Ames.
