MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The No. 23 Iowa State women's cross country team posted a runner-up finish (66) at the 32nd Roy Griak Invitational. The Cyclones toppled No. 19 Minnesota and No. 20 Michigan State en route to their best team finish at the event since 2014.
The Dons of San Francisco took the team title (25), with four of their runners finishing in the top-4.
The Cardinal and Gold was paced once again by freshman Cailie Logue. She posted a fifth-place finish and a time of 21:39. Finishing just behind Logue was teammate and All-Big 12 honoree, Anne Frisbie. Frisbie crossed the finish line in 21:43 to finish sixth.
Rounding out the scoring runners for the Cyclones were juniors Kelly Naumann and Evelyne Guay and freshman Amanda Vestri. Naumann finished 14th with a time of 21:57. Vestri took 18th at 22:09 and Guay took 29th in 22:35.
Freshman Karly Ackley finished 40th with a time of 22:34, sophomore Megan Schott finished 67th at 23:29 and Abby Caldwell raced to a 135th-place finish in 24:39.
Iowa State's three freshmen all finished in the top-40. No other team in the field had more than one freshman to finish in the top-40.
The Cyclones will have a brief break before they head to Madison, Wisc. to compete at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational on Oct. 13.
