IRVING, Texas – The Big 12 Conference announced its 2018 Football All-Academic team this afternoon, and 26 members of the Iowa State football team were selected, tying for the most in the league.
Twenty Cyclones earned first-team honors, including Spencer Benton, who was a first-team honoree for the third time in his career.
Other Cyclones to receive first-team recognition were: Chase Allen, Cole Anderson, Jason Bowman, Jared Gescheidler, Conner Greene, Vince Horras, Jake Hummel, Charlie Kolar, Ray Lima, Bryce Meeker, Colin Newell, Reggan Northrup, Kene Nwangwu, Collin Olson, Brian Peavy, Tucker Robertson, Dylan Soehner, Quinn Sonntag and Will Windham.
Greene and Kolar were among 11 players nominated with 4.00 grade point averages.
Six Cyclones received second-team honors: Landen Akers, Connor Assalley, Carson Epps, David Montgomery, Joe Rivera and Steven Wirtel.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
