-No. 25 Iowa State (6-4, 5-3 Big 12), which had its school-record five-game league winning streak snapped vs. Texas, wraps up regular-season conference action by playing host to Kansas State (5-6, 3-5 Big 12) on Saturday. Â
-Iowa State will honor 19 seniors this weekend. ISU is 8-10 in "Senior Day" games since 2000.Â
-ISU is trying to end a 10-game losing streak to the Wildcats. Nine of the 10 losses in the string have been decided by eight points or less. ISU leads the all-time series at 49-48-4.Â
-For the first time in school history, Iowa State rattled off five-straight conference victories in a single season. At 5-3, ISU has tied its school record for most conference wins in a season: 1977 (5-2), 2000 (5-3), 2017 (5-4), 2018 (5-3). ISU has also guaranteed an upper-half finish in the Big 12 standings for the second year in a row.Â
-Iowa State became bowl eligible after the Baylor victory and will have an above .500 record in conference play for the second-straight season. This marks the just the third time since the -Big 12 was formed in 1996 where the Cyclones had a winning record in conference play: 2000 (5-3), 2017 (5-4), 2018 (5-3).
-ISU appeared in the first three CFP rankings and is ranked in two polls: AP (#25) and CFP (#16). It marks the latest ISU has been ranked in the AP poll in the regular season since 1976 (#14 on Nov. 20). Â Â
-ISU currently has played the third-toughest schedule nationally to date according to the Sagarin Rankings.
-The Iowa State defense has been stellar in 2018, holding nine opponents to below their season scoring average. The Cyclones lead the Big 12 in scoring defense at 20.8 (25th nationally) and second in total defense at 350.5 (35th nationally). ISU is limiting its opponents to 12.0 points below its season scoring averages.
-ISU's actual scoring defense season total is 18.0 (the Cyclones have given up four non-offensive TDs). Â
-ISU's offense has made a resurgence with the insertion of true freshman QB Brock Purdy in the last six games. With Purdy at the helm, ISU is 5-1 with wins over two over ranked teams, and is averaging 30.5 points, 390.7 yards of offense and 6.0 yards per play. He's won Big 12 Newcomer of the Week three times.Â
-Purdy has been sensational, averaging 240.8 yards passing, 280.8 yards of total offense and is completing 64.6 pct. of his passes. He's accounted for 15 of ISU's 22 TDs in the last six games (13 passing, 2 rushing).Â
-WR Hakeem Butler is a big-play machine, ranking third in the nation in yards per reception at 21.8. He owns 10 of ISU's 13 longest plays this season, all 37 yards or longer. Â
-Butler leads the team in receptions (42), receiving yards (915) and TD catches (8). His career 19.0 ypc average is the best in ISU history and he ranks 19th nationally in receiving ypg (91.5). He is averaging 100.7 ypg, 23.2 ypc and has 5 TDs in the last six games.
-Butler is aiming for two single-season school marks. His 915 receiving yards ranks seventh in school history, 158 yards shy of the school record (Lane Danielsen, 1,073 in 2002). His eight TD catches ties for fifth in school history, two TDs shy of the school mark (Allen Lazard, 10 in 2017). Â
-DE JaQuan Bailey leads the team in TFL (10.5) and sacks (6.5). His 16.5 career sacks ties for third in ISU history, two sacks shy from the school mark of 18.5 held by Shawn Moorehead (2004-06).
-RB David Montgomery ranks fourth in the Big 12 and 40th nationally in rushing at 88.7 yards per game. Montgomery has four 100-yard rushing efforts this season and 12 in his career to tie for sixth in school history.Â
-Montgomery is now 10th all-time in school history in career rushing yards (2,507) and tied for 10th in career rushing TDs (20).Â
-Starters by class in 2018: Seniors (7), Juniors (13), Sophomores (9), Freshmen (7). Only one senior on offense (Matthew Eaton) has started more than seven games. Â
-Senior QB Kyle Kempt broke the school record for consecutive passes thrown without an interception (158).Â
-Iowa State ranks 29th nationally in sacks per game at 2.7 (27). Sixteen different Cyclones have recorded a sack this season. ISU's school mark for sacks in a season is 32 (1998).Â
