Iowa State finished the regular season 16-13 overall, including a season-best four-match winning streak to close the season. ISU finished 9-7 in Big 12 play, to finished tied for third in the conference. However, the Cyclones missed out on extending its 12-year run of making the NCAA Volleyball Championship.
The NIVC is in its second season of incarnation after having previously been a competition from 1989-95. Last season's event saw Ole Miss, who ISU opened the 2018 season with, win the title over Texas Tech.
