AMES, Iowa – The Big 12 Conference unveiled its Scholar Athletes of the Year today, and Kelly Naumann is the 2018 Big 12 Cross Country Female Scholar Athlete of the Year. Naumann becomes the second Cyclone recipient of the award. Meaghan Nelson was the first Iowa State runner to win the award back in 2012.
Naumann's 2018 season was successful both on the course and in the classroom. The Tempe, Ariz., native was consistently in Iowa State's top-5. She finished 10th at the 2018 Big 12 Championships, earning All-Big 12 honors and helping Iowa State to its third straight Big 12 title. She took 32nd individually at the Midwest Regional, which Iowa State also won as a team.
For the third straight year, Naumann was rewarded for her work in the classroom. She was named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, an honor she has received every year that she's been in the Iowa State lineup. Since the fall semester of 2015, Naumann has also earned a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll every semester. She's twice been named an USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual.
Naumann is currently pursuing a Master's of Design in Sustainable Environment in which she has a 3.92 GPA. She has already graduated with a Bachelor's in Regional and Community planning.
