How It Happened
The Cyclones jumped out to a fast start, scoring on their first six possessions to go ahead 15-7 on a Talen Horton-Tucker jumper less than six minutes into the game. Horton-Tucker scored nine of ISU's first 15 points to lead the charge. Drake would flip the script by rattling off a 13-0 run to go ahead 20-15 with 12:07 remaining in the half.
It was back-and-forth until Iowa State closed the half with a 9-0 flurry of its own to lead 36-32 at the intermission. Jacobson scored seven of the final nine Cyclone points to close the half, tying Horton-Tucker for a team-leading 11 points in the first period.
Drake reclaimed the lead with a 10-0 run early in the second half to give the Bulldogs a 49-44 advantage with 13:54 to play. The see-saw affair continued until the Cyclones put together the decisive 12-0 spurt to take control down the stretch. Jacobson sparked the Iowa State push, scoring seven-straight, including a triple to tie the game, and a layup on the ensuing possession to give the Cyclones the lead for good.
Iowa State outscored Drake 18-2 over the final 6:50 of game time until a Bulldog triple in the closing seconds.
