AMES, Iowa – Iowa State linebacker Mike Rose was named to The Athletic's Freshman All-America team, announced today by the national outlet.
A true freshman from Brecksville, Ohio, Rose started every game in 2018, ranking fourth on the team in tackles with 68.
Rose, who was an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection, also has 9.0 TFL on the year, ranking second on the team and second among NCAA FBS rookies.
The Cyclone star became the first true freshman defender to start in a season-opener since 2006, recording a team-high 11 tackles in his debut vs. Iowa.
Rose heads into bowl season with 1.5 sacks and returned a fumble 21 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to help the Cyclones in their come-from-behind win over Kansas State.
Rose needs two stops to crack Iowa State's freshman top-10 in tackles.
