AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (12-14, 6-9 Big 12) got its third win in four games with a 69-57 victory over Texas Tech (7-19, 1-14 Big 12) on Saturday afternoon inside Hilton Coliseum. ISU picked up its first home victory of 2018 via a strong shooting effort, as the Cyclones went 17-of-26 on two-pointers to help power the effort. Iowa State also picked up its first Big 12 sweep of the season, recording a season-low six turnovers in the process.
Individually, the Cyclones were led by Bridget Carleton's 25 points, her ninth 20-point output of the season. Joining her in the 20-point club was Emily Durr, whose 20 points marked her fourth 20-point effort of the season.
How It Happened
The visitors got out to an early 9-4 lead, which ISU was able to erase with an 11-0 run to pull ahead 15-9. The Cyclones drained nine-of-17 shots in the first period while forcing six Texas Tech turnovers. Adriana Camber's lay-in with five seconds to go in the period to have a 22-14 lead after one period.
The Lady Raiders fought their way back into the contest, going on a 9-2 run to bring the ISU lead down to 28-26. The Cyclone offense was able to come back to life with a 9-0 run to re-open the advantage to 11 at 37-26. The Cyclones finished the half with the final five points, with Camber's free throws with five seconds to go making it 42-28 going into the locker room.
ISU pushed the lead to 20 points in the early moments of the second half, and went into cruise control for much of the second half. Iowa State's limited post depth was tested late on as Meredith Burkhall and Claire Ricketts both got to four fouls. TTU took advantage in the paint, cutting ISU's lead to eight at 64-56. However, Iowa State was able to keep its cool, with Bridget Carleton and Emily Durr taking care of business from there to bring home the victory.
Players of Note
In front of over 40 family and friends visiting from Canada, Bridget Carleton led the way for Iowa State. The junior finished with 25 points, 15 of which came in the first half. She has been in double figures all 26 regular season games with season.
Emily Durr was in double figures for the seventh time in eight games, as she notched 20 points, 12 of which came in the first half. She also gave out a team-best five assists.
