NORMAN, Okla. – The Iowa State women's basketball team(12-15, 6-10 Big 12) fell 80-71 at Oklahoma (15-12, 10-6 Big 12) on Wednesday night at the Lloyd Noble Center.
Emily Durr paced the Cyclone attack, with 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting while knocking down 6-of-7 from beyond the arc. It was her fifth 20-point effort of the season. Meredith Burkhall scored eight points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
How It Happened
Iowa State never led in the first half, but surged in the second quarter behind Bridget Carleton and Durr. The duo kept the Cyclones within striking distance, as the Oklahoma lead never ballooned to more than six points in the first half. Carleton and Durr combined to score 27 of Iowa State's 35 first-half points, and sparked a strong second quarter that narrowed the OU lead to 38-25 at halftime.
The Cyclones out-scored the Sooners 20-19 in the second stanza while knocking down 7-of-13 from the field, including 4-of-6 from beyond the 3-point line. Durr put up an efficient 14 points on 5-of-5 shooting in the first 20 minutes, making all four of her attempts from beyond the arc.
Oklahoma came out of the intermission and took control in the third quarter, as the Iowa State offense went cold. The Sooners went on an 11-0 run while Iowa State missed six consecutive field goal attempts, and eventually grew the lead to as many as 17 at 57-40 with 2:23 to play in the third quarter. Durr and Adrianna Camber responded with back-to-back triples, cutting the Sooner advantage to 57-46 with 10 minutes to play.
The Sooners opened the fourth quarter on an 11-2 spurt, taking their largest lead of the game at 68-48. Iowa State closed the game on an 8-0 run, but fell 80-71.
Player of Note
Emily Durr was in double figures for the eighth time in nine games, as she put up 22 points. Durr made 8-of-12 attempts from the field, including 6-of-7 from 3-point range. She also grabbed three rebounds and dished out four assists
