Junior Bridget Carleton continued to be a force for the Cyclones offensively. She scored 23 points on the evening and did a good job of finding her teammates, racking up four assists.
After the game, Iowa State honored its seniors Emily Durr and Claire Ricketts.
How It Happened
Texas held a 21-17 lead after the first quarter. The Longhorns began the second quarter on a 10-0 run before a Carleton 15 footer broke the ISU scoring drought. In total, Carleton poured in 10 first-half points.
At the break, the Cyclones trailed the Longhorns 41-29. UT held Iowa State to just 11-31 shooting in the first half, including 3-11 from deep. Texas also outrebounded Iowa State 27-12 in the first half.
Iowa State close the third quarter on an 8-0 run, holding the Longhorns scoreless for the final three minutes of the quarter. The Cardinal and Gold punctuated the run when Carleton hit a streaking Adriana Camber for a buzzer-beating layup. Heading to the fourth, ISU had trimmed the UT lead to just 52-45.
ISU clawed back, re-cutting Texas' lead to just seven a couple of times in the quarter, but couldn't amass the comeback needed to knock off the Longhorns. In the end, ISU fell to Texas, 72-59.
