Cyclones See Season Come To An End; Falls To Oklahoma, 4-0

AUSTIN, Texas —The Iowa State tennis team (9-17, 0-9 Big 12) saw its season come to an end, losing 4-0 to the Oklahoma Sooners Thursday in the first round of the Big 12 Championship.
Despite a 5-2 lead by duo Maty Cancini and Regina Espindola at No. 1 doubles, the Cyclones gave the doubles point to the Sooners. At No. 2 doubles, Margarita Timakova and Ekaterina Repina fell to Lily Miyazaki and Malene Stripp, 6-2, while Annabella Bonadonna and Karen Alvarez took a loss to Simran Kaur Sethi and Camila Romera, 6-0, at the No. 3 position.
In singles action, ISU took its first loss at No. 6 singles, where Alvarez fell to Kaur Sethi, 6-2, 6-2. Oklahoma received another advantage when Sooner Asghar defeated Repina, 6-0, 6-3, in No. 2 singles play. The match concluded when Cancini dropped her match to No. 39 ranked athlete Miyazaki, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Timakova, who played at the No. 4 spot, participated in a close match against her Oklahoma foe, Romero, where she led her match, 7-6, but the match ended unfinished.
