Iowa State is traveling a squad of nearly 40 student-athletes to Tempe this weekend. Last year at this meet, Jaymes Dennison and Roshon Roomes both went under 1:48 in the men's 800, and will get another crack at it on Saturday night in the 800-meter run premiere. Frank Hayes and Festus Lagat both went under 1:50 in the 800 last weekend, and will look to do so again in the open 800, which also features Cyclones Zach Black and Ka'Ven Berry. That group will also help form ISU's 4x400-meter relay entry at the end of the meet on Saturday night.
In the field, Jalen Ford will be back in action after his 7-1 (2.16m) effort last weekend at the Florida Relays. The men's hammer throw crew will be back in action after a weekend off, with Vlad Pavlenko being among the nine in the premiere competition on Friday afternoon, and Chris Celona and Brett Peters in the open competition.
On the women's side, Andrea Grove-McDonough's mid-distance crew will tackle the 800 this weekend, with Larkin Chapman, Jasmine Staebler and Erinn Stenman-Fahey all in the Premiere 800 on Saturday night. The ISU women will also have a trio of competitors in the 1,500-meter run Premiere in Evelyne Guay, Kelly Naumann and Gwynne Wright on Saturday evening.
In the field, Essence Henderson's impressive freshman season will continue in the discus throw premiere on Saturday afternoon and the open shot put with Keiara Williams on Saturday evening. The hammer throwers will open things on Friday, with Christabel Okeke in the premiere competition, and Tessa Krempel in the open division.
