Iowa State 3 Drake 0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-12)
The Cyclones showed good hustle on defense to keep rallies alive, and that helped ISU push ahead 15-11 in the first frame. Piper Mauck did well to spread out the Iowa State attack to keep the Bulldog defense off-balance, with the Cyclones building ahead by as many as seven points at 19-12. Drake battled back with a 6-0 run to bring the ISU lead back down to a single point at 19-18. The Cyclones were able to piece things back together, with Jess Schaben firing one off the block to bring up set point at 24-21, which got converted via a Hannah Bailey and Grace Lazard block at 25-21.
ISU kept the intensity up, pushing ahead 8-4 in the early stages of the second frame. The Cyclone block was more active, with Mauck in particular playing an important role. Her stuff with Meegan Hart moved ISU ahead 12-6. Drake was able to cut ISU's lead down to a pair, but the Cyclones were able to push back ahead and beyond, going up seven at 19-12 on an Izzy Enna ace. Iowa State would lead by as many as 10 points in the frame at 22-12. A Schaben kill wrapped up the set at 25-14 Iowa State.
Hart went on a big serving run to open up the third set, putting down two aces as part of a 7-0 run that put the Cyclones ahead 9-2 in the third. Lazard added a service ace later in the frame helping push the Cyclone advantage into double figures. Iowa State cruised throughout, wrapping up the set and the match when Avery Rhodes killed on the slide at 25-12.
Wayne State 3 Iowa State 0 (31-33, 19-25, 21-25)
Wayne State was able to get ahead and stay ahead of the Cyclones from the start of the first. The Wayne State lead got to five at 22-17, but ISU rallied late, going on a 3-0 run to cut the Wildcat lead to a pair at 22-20. Wayne St. got to set point first at 24-21, but back-to-back Piper Mauck aces and a Jess Schaben kill got the set to 24-24. Iowa State failed to convert four set points, Wayne State missed on four more as the frame rolled into the 30s. WSC finally took the set on their eighth try via a Hope Carter ace at 33-31.
Grace Lazard entered the lineup in the second and made an impact right away, putting down consecutive kills to put ISU ahead 6-3. Wayne State hung in there and eventually knotted it back up at 15-15 when Lazard fired long on the slide, but ISU quickly got back ahead on back-to-back Schaben kills. WSC kept the pressure up and eventually got ahead at 21-18 on three-straight Cyclone hitting errors. That was all the room the Wildcats needed, as they pulled ahead to wrap up the frame on an Allison Timmermans kill at 25-19.
The ISU hitting errors continued to pile up and Wayne State continued to take advantage, as the Wildcats moved ahead 13-8 in the third. The Cyclones finally put together a big run, with Lazard controlling action from behind the service line to lead a 6-0 run which put ISU ahead 15-14. Wayne St. rallied to pull back ahead at 18-17, and ISU was able to tie it again at 20-20. However, Wayne State took the late points again, as they were able to complete the sweep when Katie Stephens and Jaci Brahmer denied Lazard at 25-21.
