AMES, Iowa – Iowa State outside hitter
Jess Schaben has been selected for the U.S. Collegiate National Team that will tour Italy and Croatia in July, USA Volleyball has announced.
Schaben and her 11 teammates, who consiste of other collegiate volleyball players from across the country, were selected through the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts held March 2-4 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
This is the fourth-straight season ISU has had a representative in the collegiate national team setup.
Monique Harris was in Minneapolis last year as part of the Collegiate National Team program,
Ciara Capezio went with USA Volleyball to Italy and Croatia in 2016 and
Morgan Kuhrt went with a CNT group to China in 2015.
The CNT-Europe will be together from July 4-15. Led by Louisville head coach Dani Busboom Kelly, the team will train together and play some exhibition matches prior to taking part in the Global Challenge from July 10-13 in Pula, Croatia. The competition in Pula will feature other Junior National Teams in the region.
A two-time AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, two-time AVCA All-Midwest Region and two-time All-Big 12 First Team honoree, Schaben led Iowa State last season with 338 kills at 3.31 per set and was second on ISU with 312 digs at 3.06 per frame. In 2017, Schaben became the first Cyclone to post a 300 kill-300 dig season since Carly Jenson in 2011, and became the 10th student-athlete in ISU volleyball history to record over 1,000 career kills.
