AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State men's cross country team received its highest preseason ranking in school history, No. 5, earlier this fall when the initial USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll was unveiled.
Since then, other major cross country polls have taken note, and the Cyclones begin the season as a consensus top-5 program. FloTrack and Stride Report have ISU slotted No. 4 in their rankings, while DyeStat lists Iowa State at No. 5.
Along with the team accolades, Iowa State has a pair of athletes receiving individual acknowledgement. All Americans Andrew Jordan and Edwin Kurgat were named in FloTracks Individual Top-25. Jordan checks in as the No. 13 runner in the country, while Kurgat is tabbed No. 8 nationally.
Jordan and Kurgat are accompanied by a pack of other formidable runners. All-Midwest Region performers Dan Curts, Stanley Langat and Milo Greder, along with former Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Thomas Pollard and highly touted freshman Chad Johnson, have the Cyclones looking like a strong force come November.
Iowa State began its season with a dominant performance at the Hawkeye Invitational, posting a perfect score of 15 en route to a team victory. They will return to the course on Friday, Sept. 28 at the Nuttycombe Invitational. The event is set to begin at 11 a.m.
