NORMAN, Okla. – Iowa State freshman Thasaporn Naklo advanced to the round of 16 with a three-set victory Saturday at the ITA Central Regionals hosted by the University of Oklahoma.
Naklo moved on with a three-set win against Arkansas senior Lauren Alter, winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Naklo will face Wichita State's Sarvinoz SaidHujaeva, who upset 11-seed Maria Toran Ribes of Kansas.
Maty Cancini fell to Kansas State's Margot Decker in a three-set heartbreaker, 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (7), and Chie Kezuka was downed by another Wildcat, Maria Linares, 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles, Naklo and fellow freshman Christin Hsieh beat Bradley's Natalia Barbery and Sandra Maletin, 8-2, in the round of 32 before bowing out in the round of 16 with an 8-5 loss to Oklahoma's Camila Romero and Martina Capurro.
