AMES, Iowa – The Big 12 Conference announced today its weekly cross country awards. After an eighth-place finish individually at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, Cailie Logue has been named the Big 12 Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week.
This is the second time in Logue's career that she has earned the weekly Big 12 honor. It is also the second time this season that a Cyclone has won this award, after Abby Caldwell won it for her individual victory at the Hawkeye Invitational to begin the season.
In her 2019 cross country debut, Logue picked up right where she left off in 2018. At the 4k mark of the Joe Piane Invitational, the Erie, Kan., native was in the lead pack, sitting in 11th individually. Down the final stretch, Logue kicked into the top-10 with an eighth-place finish behind a 5k time of 16:27.67.
The Joe Piane Invitational featured one of the most competitive fields the nation has seen this season. 11 of the teams ranked in the USTFCCCA top-30 nationally were in attendance, including five of the top-9 teams. Logue finished in front of every runner from No. 6 Utah and No. 3 Colorado, who took first and second as a team at the event, respectively.
Logue and the No. 29 Iowa State women will return to the course on Oct. 18 at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational.
