Downing, Hall Earn Freshman All-America Honors By The Athletic

AMES, Iowa – A pair of Iowa State freshmen were recognized today for their first-year contributions on the gridiron, as running back Breece Hall and offensive lineman Trevor Downing were named Second-Team Freshman All-American by The Athletic.
Hall, a native of Wichita, Kan., led the Cyclones in rushing yards (842) and rushing touchdowns (9) in the regular season. His nine rushing touchdowns is the most ever by a Cyclone freshman and his rushing total is second-best among ISU rookies.
Hall had limited carries in ISU's first five games, but became the primary rusher in its last seven contests, averaging 108.3 yards, 5.0 yards per carry and tallying all nine of his touchdowns during that span.
Hall, who posted four 100-yard rushing efforts, ranked second in the Big 12 (conference games only) in rushing at 95.0 yards per game.
The rookie was also a threat as a pass-catcher, tallying 19 catches for 207 receiving yards to move him over the 1,000-yard mark (1,049) in all-purpose yardage.
Downing, who hails from Creston, Iowa, found his way into the starting lineup in his redshirt freshman season and emerged as one of the Cyclones' best offensive lineman.
Downing started the final 11 games of the season at left guard, helping the Cyclone offense post historic numbers. Iowa State is on pace to break school records in total offense (458.7) and scoring (34.1).
Downing's efforts on the line aided Hall in producing one of the greatest seasons by a rookie rusher in Cyclone history and provided protection for quarterback Brock Purdy, who broke 16 school records in his outstanding sophomore season.
Iowa State ranks ninth nationally in sacks allowed at 1.17 sacks per game.
