Cyclones Take On Wright State Sunday

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State women's basketball team (6-2, 0-0, Big 12) is set to take on Wright State (5-3, 0-0 Horizon League) on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 1 p.m. on Cyclones.tv. Sunday's matchup is the first meeting between the two squads in series history.
As a reminder, Hilton Coliseum has instituted a Clear Bag Policy for athletic events. The policy will enhance security while improving efficiency at the entry gates.

- Sophomore Ashley Joens, is off to a historic start to her sophomore season, and is currently averaging a double-double with 22.4 points and 10.4 rebounds. Joens' season average is trending close to Iowa State's single-season scoring record was set last season by senior Bridget Carleton at 21.7 points per game.Â
- Joens is currently first in the Big 12 in scoring and sixth in the nation, averaging 22.4 points per game, while her 10.4 rebounds ranks sixth in the Big 12 and 21st nationally. Joens is the only player in the NCAA averaging over 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and shooting over 40 percent from the floor.
- Joens also has a knack for getting to the free-throw line. She ranks third in free throws made (62), and 30th in free throws attempted (70). Her 88.6 percent at the charity stripe also ranks 27th nationally and first in the Big 12.
- Junior Kristin Scott picked up right where she left off last season, earning a spot on the Preseason All-Big 12 team. Scott is currently second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.3 points, despite playing limited minutes earlier this season. Scott is also second in rebounding, averaging 6.6 boards per game.
- Joens and Scott each found themselves on a pair of preseason watch lists, with Joens being named to the Cheryl Miller Award Watch List, which honors the nation's top small forward. Scott on the other hand, was named to the Lisa Leslie Watch List, which honors the country's best center. Scott is the first Cyclone to be named to the Lisa Leslie Watch List. Scott is also on the Citizen Naismith Trophy Watch List, which honors the nation's top player.
- Junior Rae Johnson is second in the Big 12 in assists per game, averaging 4.9. Johnson has dished five or more assists in four games this season.
- Iowa State currently ranks 15th nationally in blocked shots per game (5.5 BPG). Scott leads ISU, averaging 1.8 blocks per game on the year, while Ines Nezerwa is averaging 1.4 per game.
- The 2019-20 season marks the 25th in the tenure of Bill Fennelly. Fennelly has led Iowa State to 18 NCAA Tournament appearances. Fennelly boasts a 511-264 record at Iowa State and a 677-317 record in his 32-year career as a head coach. ISU struggled offensively, shooting just 31.9 percent from the floor and connecting on only four triples. Despite outrebounding the Hawkeyes by 10, ISU still fell short against Iowa. Iowa's win snapped a five-game win streak by the Cyclones.
