




AMES, Iowa - The 13th-ranked Iowa State women's basketball team (25-8, 13-5 Big 12) earned a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament and is set to face New Mexico State (26-6, 15-1 WAC) in the first round on Saturday, March 23 at 4:30 p.m. Iowa State earned the right to host the first and second rounds, for the first time under the new selection format, allowing the top-16 teams the opportunity to host. The Cyclones' No. 3 seed marks the highest seed for ISU since earning a three-seed in 2002.

She is the first Cyclone in school history to earn Big 12 Player of the Year honors. Carleton was also honored by ESPNW as a second-team All-American, becoming the first Cyclone since 2002 to earn the honor. She is currently a top-5 finalist for the Cheryl miller Award, which honors the nation's best small forward.
- ISU checks in at No. 13 in the final AP Top 25 poll and also ranked No. 13 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, both mark season highs for ISU. The No. 13 ranking is the highest final AP ranking since finishing 10th in 2002.
- Carleton (2,088) is currently second in school history in scoring, she is 62 points away from passing all-time scoring leader, Angie Welle (2,149). She also holds the school record in scoring average, netting 17.1 points per game in her career and counting.
- Carleton's 706 points this season is a new single-season scoring record. She is also on pace to break the ISU single-season scoring average also set by Welle in 2002 (20.5 PPG), as she is averaging 21.4 PPG. Carleton is also looking to be just the third Cyclone to lead the Big 12 in scoring, as Angie Welle (20.5, 2002) and Lindsey Wilson (19.2, 2003) completed the feat.
- Ashley Joens, who was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team, has connected on 70 3-pointers this season, which ranks first all-time among ISU freshmen. Joens needs just eight more to rank 10th in the ISU record book for triples made in a single season.
- Iowa State had a four Cyclones honored by the league's coaches with Carleton being named the Player of the Year and a unanimous All-Big 12 first-team selection for the third-straight season. Kristin Scott earned All-Big 12 second-team honors, while Alexa Middleton earned honorable mention honors. Joens was also named to the All-Freshman Team.
- Iowa State boasts one of the highest-scoring offenses in school history, with its 78.9 points per game average, just off the school record of 79.9 PPG, which was set in the 1999-00 season. Iowa State has already tied the 1999-00 team as the only two Big 12 teams to score 100 or more points on two conference opponents in a single season.
- The 2018-19 season marks the 24th in the tenure of Bill Fennelly. Fennelly has led Iowa State to 17 NCAA Tournament appearances.
