AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head volleyball coach Christy Johnson-Lynch announced the addition of defensive specialist Abriana Lemke to the 2019 Iowa State volleyball team. Lemke, a defensive specialist/libero from Gilbert, Arizona, will join the Cyclones in the summer once she has completed her high school education.
"Abriana will be a wonderful addition to our program," Johnson-Lynch said. "We wanted to continue to shore up our backcourt defense, and Abriana has great experience at libero. I really like her passing and her quickness defensively. She's a wonderful young woman who will add a lot on and off the court. She is incredibly excited to be a Cyclone, and was so impressed with our Apparel, Merchandising & Design program. It was all a great fit for her and for our team."
A three-year starter at libero at Williams Field High School for coach Jeremy Hutter, Lemke was named her squad's MVP all three of her seasons on varsity. Her senior campaign saw Lemke earn First Team All-Region honors while leading the Black Hawks and her region with 351 digs at 5.57 per set, which was also her high school's single-season digs record. Lemke also brings a strong serve to the tabale, as her junior season saw her lead the team in aces with 46. She also ran track for one season in high school.
Lemke played the past three club seasons for Club One, with her 17 Platinum team qualifying for Junior Nationals in the National Division.
A National Honors Society student outside the court, Lemke intends to major in Apparel, Merchandising and Design at Iowa State. She was also heavily involved in community service in high school and was class president in junior year.
