AMES, Iowa – Iowa State underclassmen Talen Horton-Tucker and Lindell Wigginton have announced their intentions to enter the 2019 NBA Draft. Per NCAA rules, student-athletes can hire an agent to assist them in the process. Any player wishing to return to college can do so by withdrawing from the draft by May 29.
"We wish Lindell and Talen the very best as they pursue their dreams of playing in the NBA," Iowa State head coach Steve Prohm said. "They have made a significant impact on our program in the last two years and will always be remembered for helping us win a Big 12 Tournament title. We will continue to help them in any way we can going forward and they'll always have a home here in Ames."
Wigginton finished his sophomore season second on the team averaging 13.5 points. He earned the Big 12 Sixth Man Award after suffering an injury in the season's first game and becoming a valuable performer off the bench upon his return from the 10-game absence. Wigginton, a Dartmouth, Nova Scotia native, shot 39 percent behind the arc and improved his assist (2.1) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.1) during his second season in Ames.
Wigginton earned all-tournament team honors as Iowa State won the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship last month in Kansas City, Missouri.
"After discussing with my family and my coaching staff, I have decided to pursue my lifelong dream and declare for the 2019 NBA Draft," Wigginton said in a statement posted to his social media accounts. "Iowa State and Hilton Coliseum will always hold a special place in my heart and I will forever be a Cyclone."
Horton-Tucker led all Big 12 freshmen averaging 11.8 points per game. He also pulled down 4.9 rebounds and dished out 2.3 assists per game.
The Chicago native scored 21 points in Iowa State's quarterfinal win against Baylor at the Big 12 Championship. Horton-Tucker, an All-Big 12 honorable mention selection and a member of the league's all-freshman team, became ISU's second freshman since 1992-93 to have 400 points, 150 rebounds and 75 assists. He is just the fourth freshman in Big 12 history to reach those marks as well.
"I would like to thank my coaches, teammates, advisors, friends and the fans at Iowa State for making this chapter in my life a great one," Horton-Tucker said on social media. "I'll hold on to the relationships that I've built here forever. With that being said, after speaking with my family and coaching staff at Iowa State, I believe that it is in my best interest to begin the next chapter of my life and declare for the 2019 NBA Draft."
The 2019 NBA Draft will be held Thursday, June 20 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
