AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State soccer team and head coach Tony Minatta announced the program's 2018 schedule Wednesday. The Cyclones will face a strong schedule, featuring seven homes matches, as well as eight regular season contests against teams that earned bids to the 2018 NCAA Soccer Tournament.
Iowa State will square off against UNI (Aug. 11) and Drake (Aug. 17) in exhibition matches. The Cyclones will then officially open the 2019 campaign on Aug. 23 at UCLA, which advanced to the national quarterfinals and finished the 2018 season ranked No. 5 nationally. Iowa State will then take on UC Irvine on Aug. 25 to close out its opening weekend in the state of California.
Up next for the Cyclones is the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series match against Iowa in Iowa City on Aug. 29. ISU will be looking to keep in a Cyclone State two years in a row after taking down the Hawkeyes, 2-1, in last season's contest in Ames. Iowa State will then return to the Cyclone Sports Complex for its home-opener, on Sep. 1 vs. Purdue.
Iowa State travels to Creighton on Sep. 6 before returning home to take on Omaha later that weekend, with the Mavs and Cyclones set for kick-off in Ames on Sep. 8. The Cyclones then hit the road for four-straight matches away from home, closing out the 2019 non-conference slate. Iowa State travel to Saint Louis (Sep. 13), SIU Edwardsville (Sep. 15) and Memphis (Sep. 20) before opening Big 12 play on Sep. 27 at West Virginia, which closed out the 2018 campaign as the No. 14 team in the country.
Iowa State returns home to the friendly confines of the Cyclone Sports Complex to play four of its next five matches in Ames. ISU will battle Texas Tech (Oct. 3) and TCU (Oct. 6), followed by an Oct. 11 trip to Kansas State. The team will then return for a home weekend with dates vs. Oklahoma (Oct. 17) and Oklahoma State (Oct. 20). Iowa State's final road trip of the regular season ensues with a trip south to take on Texas (Oct. 24) and Baylor (Oct. 27), which advanced to the Elite Eight in 2018.
The Cyclones will close out the 2019 campaign with senior day on Oct. 31 vs. Kansas.
