ISU Finalizes Winter Transfer Class with Three Signees

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State soccer coach Matt Fannon has announced the addition of three transfers to the 2026 Cyclone roster, completing the winter portal additions. Giovanna Hansen (Portland State), Ava Hancock (Illinois) and Breezie Brewer (Alabama) round out the class for ISU.

All three will have multiple years of eligibility to play in Ames, with Brewer having two seasons and both Hansen and Hancock having three.

"The staff worked incredibly hard through this transfer window to secure a tremendous group," said Fannon. "We are excited to see them make a difference on the field and in the locker room."

Breezie Brewer, a 5'7 junior defender, started to come into her own this past season at Alabama, appearing in 15 contests and earning her first start at Tennessee. In two years of play, Brewer has 25 games of experience under her belt with both a goal and an assist to her name.

Brewer, a Riverside, Calif. native, comes to Ames after spending her first two seasons in Tuscaloosa with the Crimson Tide and her sister Cali.

"Breezie is going to be a massive addition to our team," says Fannon. "A left back capable of playing at the highest level, she is athletic, aggressive and ready to make an impact at both ends of the field."

Ava Hancock, a to-be sophomore 5'7 forward, comes to Ames from Illinois, where she played in two games during her freshman campaign.

A Springfield, Ill. native, Hancock played a career-best 32 minutes against Valparaiso on Sept. 7.

"Ava is a bit of an old-school forward who loves to get her head down and run at people," says Fannon. "She has a lot of potential and a lot of ability, and we are looking forward to her scoring a number of goals for us."

Giovanna Hansen, a 5'5 freshman forward, wrapped her freshman season this fall with Portland. She appeared in 19 contests, making eight starts, and accumulated over 600 minutes of action.

The North Bend, Wash. native, finished the year with nine shots (six on goal) and helped the Pilots finish tied for second in the WCC standings. She will have three years of eligibility remaining.

"G is a tremendous all-round player with the ability to play multiple positions," says Fannon. "She is a forward-thinking, aggressive player who is going to cause problems for other teams regardless of where she lines up for us."
