AMES, Iowa – Iowa State (2-0, 0-0 Big 12) celebrated Senior Night in style in its home-opening game, dispatching Kansas City (0-1, 0-0 Summit) by a score of 4-0. Morgan Goodman played a role in all four of ISU's goals, assisting on three and scoring the fourth, totaling five points in all – the most by a Cyclone since 2013.
Iowa State got the scoring started in the 26th minute, as it netted its first of two first-half scores. ISU kept the pressure going in the second stanza, scoring another two goals to notch its highest goal output since the UNI game last season.
Goodman and Corcione led all players with three shots each, as four different Cyclones secured scores. Mia Sowders, Aubrey Crawford and Grace Luedde each had their first career goals, while Goodman's goal was the fifth of her career. Izzy Kapanke scored her first collegiate point on an assist, as did Makenna Marshall, and Breezie Brewer logged her second career assist.
Kansas City's Genevieve Hall led the team in shots with two, placing one on target. Ella Reyling and Maddie Muhr had the other shots on goal for the Roos. In net, Anika Patton had four saves.
Iowa State held the edge in shots, 18-11, placing eight on goal to KC's three. Kansas City had a 3-2 advantage in corners and a 4-3 edge in saves. ISU finished the game with six assists, its most in a contest since 2024.
How it Happened
The Cyclones had seven shots in the first 25 minutes before finally breaking through in the 26th frame as Mia Sowders collected a cross from Izzy Kapanke to notch her first goal in her fifth year to put ISU up 1-0.
As the first half wound down, Morgan Goodman found Aubrey Crawford in the 42nd minute as the rookie netted her first goal to give the Cyclones a 2-0 cushion.
ISU went into the break with a 2-0 lead, holding a 10-4 shot advantage. At the break, Eme McClenahan was replaced by senior Sara Gavagan in the net.
Shortly into the second stanza, Grace Luedde found a pass from the corner and headed it past Patton to score her first career goal in the 48th minute to give the Cyclones a three-goal lead.
After assisting on three goals, Goodman decided to get in on the fun, lifting one over a sliding Patton in the 61st frame to put ISU up by four.
