SAN JUSTO, Argentina – Iowa State fell for the third time in as many days when the Cyclones were swept by the Argentina World University Games Team 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-17) on the campus of the National University at La Matanza (UNLaM). The two teams played a fourth set, also won by Argentina at 25-18.
Leading the way for Iowa State was Eleanor Holthaus with seven kills, while Izzy Enna led the back row with 11 digs. At the net, Candelaria Herrera recorded three blocks to lead ISU.
Set One: Argentina 25 Iowa State 13
Iowa State got off to a slow start, as the Argentines were able to roll out to an 11-3 lead. Though there was no path back into the set for ISU, with Argentina leading by as many as 13 in the set, the Cyclones did step up the defensive intensity as it went, with the block cutting it to nine at 20-11. Argentina wrapped up the first set when Jenna Brandt was called illegally over the net at 25-13.
Set Two: Argentina 25 Iowa State 9
The Argentines were strong in all aspects in set two, with their attack and serving in particular causing problems for the visiting Cyclones. Argentina was able to get back-to-back aces to bring up set point, which was put away on second asking with a kill at 25-9.
Set Three: Argentina 25 Iowa State 17
The Cyclones put on a better show in the third, finding some more power in attack to help keep the visitors in it a little long.er However, Argentina brought physicality of its own and eventually was able to pull ahead by as many as nine. Despite some strong blocking in the final points by Iowa State, with Eleanor Holthaus in particular stepping up, the Argentines wrapped up the match with a kill at 25-17.
Bonus Set: Argentina 25 Iowa State 18
The Cyclones ran out a three-freshman lineup for the bonus set. The Argentinians were first out of the gates, but Iowa State was able to rally with a strong attack and good work out of the back row. Back-to-back Kenzie Mantz aces but Iowa State ahead 16-15, but the Argentines put together an 8-0 run to get ahead again for good. Argentina won the bonus set when the Cyclones had a service error at 25-18.

Iowa State travels to Candelaria Herrera's hometown of San Juan, Argentina tomorrow and will play a match against the University of San Juan at 7 p.m. Central Time.
