AMES, Iowa – Community service is a huge part of the Iowa State football experience and head coach Matt Campbell expects his players to be active participants.
A great example of this is the annual Victory Day celebration the team hosted this evening at MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium.
The Cyclones helped over 60 kids with disabilities live out their dreams by competing in drills and scoring touchdowns on Iowa State's home turf.
The Iowa State Football Varsity Marching Band the Iowa State Spirit Squad aided in the celebration.
This was the fourth season Campbell has hosted Victory Day in Ames, bringing the concept with him after implementing it at Toledo.
It's something the team looks forward to each year.
"The foundation and principle of our program is to give more of themselves than they take," Campbell said. "It's rewarding to watch the families and kids enjoy themselves, and it's a special night for our players."
Junior linebacker Jake Hummel participated in his third Victory Day.
"This is a great break for us as a team," Hummel said. "We know how important it is for these kids and I love being a part of this event."
