AMES, Iowa – The 2019 preseason cross country polls have been announced and the Iowa State women will begin the season ranked 17th per the USTFCCCA National Poll.
The USTFCCCA also released its Regional Polls this week. The women check in at No. 1 in the Midwest Regional Rankings. Iowa State is back-to-back Midwest Region Champions and has won seven out of the last eight Midwest Regional titles.
The 2019 women's cross country team will be an experienced bunch. The Cyclones will be led by 2018 Big 12 and Midwest Regional Individual Champion, Cailie Logue. ISU also returns a load of experience in Karly Ackley, Abby Caldwell and Larkin Chapman among others.
Iowa State will race in three regular season events, the Hawkeye Invitational (Sept. 6), the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational (Oct. 4) and the Nuttycombe Invitational (Oct. 18) before turning to the postseason schedule.
The Cardinal and Gold will look to claim their third consecutive Big 12 crown at the Big 12 Championships on Nov. 2 in Waco, Texas. A three-peat is also on the line at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships, which are set for Nov. 15 in Stillwater, Okla.
The women are looking to make their 11th-straight NCAA Championships appearance this season. This year, the NCAA Finals return to Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 23.
