IRVING, Texas – For the second time this season, Iowa State's Wesley Kiptoo and Cailie Logue have been named the Big 12's Men's and Women's Runner of the Week. Kiptoo and Logue both posted their second individual victories of the season on Saturday at the Cowboy Jamboree.
Kiptoo and Logue are the only pair of teammates in Big 12 history to seep the Big 12 weekly awards multiple times in the same season. It's the first time since 2012 that a woman has won the award in back-to-back weeks, and the first time since 2014 that a man has won the award in back-to-back weeks.
Kiptoo picked up right where he left off at the Bob Timmons Classic. The Marakwet, Kenya, native posted an 8k time of 23:34.5 to win the Cowboy Jamboree, outpacing the field by 27 seconds. Kiptoo was also named the USTFCCCA Men's National Athlete of the Week for his efforts in Stillwater.
Logue, now a four-time Big 12 Runner of the Week honoree, led the Cyclone women to their second team victory of the season on Saturday. The Erie, Kan., native's 6k time of 20:38.6 was good for her eighth-career victory and 12 seconds clear of the chase pack. Logue's four Big 12 Runner of the Week awards is tied for second-best all-time in the Big 12 record books.
The Iowa State cross country teams will be off until the Big 12 Championship on Oct. 30 at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kan. The men will be in search of their fourth-straight conference title, while the women will be looking to secure their eighth Big 12 crown in the last 10 years.
