STILLWATER, Okla. – Iowa State completed the second day of action Saturday at the Fall Series Championships hosted by Oklahoma State University.
The Cyclones had a pair of players competing in the semifinals in Maty Cancini and Christin Hsieh.
Cancini battled and nearly pulled off the come-from-behind win, but ultimately fell in three sets to Oklahoma State's Bunyawi Thamchaiwat. Thamchaiwat won the first set, 6-0, before Cancini stormed back to take the second frame, 6-4. In the third set it was Thamchaiwat who prevailed, 10-8.
In flight three, Christin Hsieh fell to KU's Vasiliki Karvouni, 6-3, 6-0.
Freshman Ellie Murphy earned a 7-6, 4-6, 10-7 win against Texas Tech's Camryn Stepp.
Cancini and Hsieh defeated Stepp and Olivia Mikkelson of Texas Tech, 6-2, in the consolation quarterfinals, but dropped a 6-1 decision to Kansas State's Maria Linares and Karine-Marion Job in the semifinals.
Play concludes tomorrow at the Fall Series Championships.
