IRVING, Texas – Iowa State junior wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson was named the 2020 Big 12 Conference Offensive Newcomer of the Year, announced today by the league office.
Hutchinson is the third Cyclone to win the award, joining Seneca Wallace (2001) and Aaron Horne (2011).
A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Hutchinson made an incredible transition from junior college by emerging as one of the top receivers in the Big 12. The All-Big 12 First Team selection led the Cyclones in receptions (50) and receiving yards (612), ranking second in the Big 12 in catches per game (5.0) and third in receiving yards per game (61.2).
Hutchinson is also second on the team in touchdown catches with four.
The Cyclone star caught a pass in all 10 games, including three games with eight or more snares. He went over the 80-yard mark four times, including a career-high 111 receiving yards vs. Kansas State.
Hutchinson had a career-best nine catches vs. Texas Tech and his 65-yard touchdown catch helped the Cyclones down Oklahoma in Ames.
