AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis program and head coach Boomer Saia have announced the signing of Sofia Cabezas.
Cabezas will join the program in January as the Cyclones look to continue their ascent in the Big 12 Conference this season.
"We are very lucky to have Sofia sign with our program," head coach Boomer Saia said. "She is an amazing person and will impact our program in a great way. Sofia was ranked among the best 100 junior players in the world and will bring a tremendous amount of playing experience to our team.
"I want to thank Sofia, her mother Gloria, and her coaches Willy and Jose, in trusting us with her tennis and development. We are excited to have her join us in January."
The Valencia, Venezuela native has ranked as high as the No. 94 junior in the world and owns a 10 UTR. She is a two-time Valencia Junior Open Singles Champion. Cabezas is also a two-time J4 finalist and on three different occasions has been a J3 semifinalist.
Cabezas has also had great success in doubles action. She is a J1 Champion, a two-time J4 Champion and a three-time J3 finalist.
