AMES, Iowa - Iowa State women's basketball sophomore guard Ashley Joens was named an honorable mention All-American by the WBCA, on Thursday. Joens is the sixth different Cyclone to earn WBCA honorable mention All-America honors.
The Iowa City, Iowa native, put together one of the best seasons in school history and the best sophomore campaign. Joens finished the season first in the Big 12 in scoring and 11th in the nation, averaging 20.5 points per game, while her 10.9 rebounds ranks third in the Big 12 and 13th nationally, the most of any guard in the league. Joens was the only player in the NCAA averaging over 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and is also the only player in the Big 12 ranking in the top-5 in points and rebounds for the season.
Recently she was also named an honorable mention All-American by Associated Press and USBWA. She was also one of three unanimous selections to the All-Big 12 First-Team. Joens averaged a double-double with 20.5 points and 10.9 rebounds and claimed a league-high six Big 12 weekly honors.
Joens notched her 1,000th career point as Iowa State topped No. 2 Baylor, ending the Lady Bears' 58-game win streak in Big 12 play. Joens netted the final three points as Iowa State topped Baylor, 57-56. Joens has 594 points on the year, which ranks fifth on ISU's single-season charts.
Joens is eligible to be chosen by the selection committee for the 10-member WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America team.
