AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State track and field squads were recognized for their strong work in the classroom by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Monday.
Both the Iowa State men's and women's track and field teams were bestowed with the NCAA DI Track and Field Team Academic Awards.
Individually, 10 Cyclones were named All-Academic Individuals. The men's team had five honorees, led by Thomas Pollard who received his fourth USTFCCCA All-Academic honor across track and cross country. Mitchell Day earned his second career honor after getting cross country honors in the fall. Cody Durbin, Festus Lagat and Daniel Nixon were all first-time honorees.
The Cyclone women quintet was led by Iowa State Female Athlete of the Year Cailie Logue, who earned her fifth career honor across track and cross country. Abby Caldwell is now a four-time honoree after earning her first career track and field All-Academic honor. Larkin Chapman earned track and field honors for a second-straight year, while Erika Furback and Katarina Vlahovic were both first-time honorees.
To be eligible for the team award, teams must have a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.0. To earn the individual award, student-athletes must have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.25, and had to rank either in the top-96 of a championship individual event or the top-48 of a championship relay event.
