AMES, Iowa – For the first time in seven years, the Iowa State volleyball team were recipients of the United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association (USMC/AVCA) Team Academic Award, the AVCA announced on Monday.
This marks the fourth time the Cyclones have received the honor as a team since the award's inception in 1992-93 and the first time since the 2012-13 academic year. All four USMC/AVCA Team Academic Awards ISU has earned have come with Christy Johnson-Lynch at the helm of the program.
The Cyclones boast a 3.38 team cumulative GPA after recording an outstanding 3.67 team GPA during the Spring 2020 semester. The Cyclones had four student-athletes earn perfect 4.0 GPAs in the spring, and 16 members of the ISU program earned spots on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Spring 2020 semester.
To be eligible for the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award, the program has to maintain a 3.30 cumulative team GPA.
