IRVING, Texas – After the first weekend of cross country for the 2020 season, the Big 12 Conference announced today that Wesley Kiptoo and Cailie Logue have been named the Big 12 Men's and Women's Cross Country Runners of the Week. It's the third time in school history that the Cyclones have swept the weekly conference awards, and the first time since 2011 (Rico Loy and Dani Stack).
In his Iowa State debut, Kiptoo cruised to a first-place finish at Rim Rock Farm. The Marakwet, Kenya, native ran a 6k time of 18:06.0 to pace the field. Kiptoo is the ninth different Cyclone in program history to earn Big 12 Cross Country Runner of the Week accolades.
Logue is now a three-time recipient of Big 12 Cross Country Runner of the Week honors. The two-time defending Big 12 champ raced to a first-place finish at the Bob Timmons Classic on Saturday. Her 5k time of 17:08.4 was 42 seconds clear of the field and good for her seventh-career individual victory. Yesterday, Logue was named the USTFCCCA National Female Athlete of the Week, as well.
The Iowa State cross country teams will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla. The men's 8k race is set to begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by the women's 5k race at 9:15 a.m. at the OSU Cross Country Course.
